What happened
ANA and startup carrier Riyadh Air signed a memorandum of understanding on 18 August 2026 covering future interline and codeshare flying, with loyalty-program reciprocity still needing regulatory approvals. The memorandum is not a live commercial deal.
The carriers intend to connect Riyadh Air’s Riyadh hub with ANA’s Tokyo hubs and points beyond. ANA describes those beyond-Riyadh connections as a way to tap demand into Riyadh and other international markets. Riyadh Air is meant to be Saudi Arabia’s second flag carrier alongside SkyTeam member Saudia. It has begun taking Boeing aircraft after delays and has been adding routes. Riyadh Air has signed similar agreements with other airlines, and it remains unclear what will actually launch. Any cooperation would be introduced gradually. Sfeer, Riyadh Air’s frequent flyer program, has not launched yet.
If reciprocity is later implemented, ANA members could eventually earn or redeem with Sfeer. There is nothing to register or book until a firm codeshare or loyalty agreement appears.
