What happened
American Express relaunched its Add a Card bonus for select Canadian personal cards on August 18, 2026, paying 30,000 points on each extra Platinum or Aeroplan Reserve card after $3,000 spend in three months, through October 29, 2026. Two extra cards can qualify for a maximum of 60,000 points. Last time the same 30,000-point bonus required $10,000 of spend.
The extra card must be added by October 29, 2026. The three-month spend clock starts at approval and can run past that date. The bonus is limited to two new additional cards per account and one offer per card. An Additional Platinum Card costs $250 a year. An Additional Aeroplan Reserve Card costs $199. Both include lounge access. Business cards are excluded.
A no-fee extra Cobalt card pays 7,500 Membership Rewards points after $2,000 spend. SimplyCash add-ons pay statement credits by March 15, 2027. Each eligible personal card now has one flat bonus instead of the spring event's tiered spend structure.
Add the extra card by October 29, 2026 if the bonus beats any extra annual fee, then have the new cardholder meet the three-month spend.
