American will put Starlink on more than 1,000 mainline jets

What happened

American Airlines said it will install Starlink Wi-Fi on every mainline Airbus and Boeing jet, expanding a May plan that covered about 500 Airbus aircraft.

Installations are scheduled to start in early 2027. Once the work is finished, Starlink would be aboard more than 1,000 mainline jets. AAdvantage members are still expected to get the service free. Regional jets remain outside the rollout.

The change should matter most on long-haul 787s and 777s that still fly with Panasonic hardware and often lose coverage. Free, faster cabin Wi-Fi on those widebodies is the practical gain for AAdvantage members.

Nothing to book, but look for the first aircraft in early 2027 and treat regional flights as remaining on older Wi-Fi.
