American Airlines has partnered with SpaceX to introduce Starlink Wi-Fi across its Airbus A320-family fleet, including A319s, A320s, A321s, A321neos, and A321XLRs. Installation is scheduled to begin in early 2027, covering more than 500 aircraft. The service will be offered free of charge to all passengers, with no requirement to be an AAdvantage member. This represents a shift from American's current setup, which uses Viasat Wi-Fi on most narrow-body planes (free for AAdvantage members) and Panasonic Wi-Fi on wide-body planes. Starlink is noted for high-speed, low-latency broadband, enabling live streaming and productivity. The move positions American alongside other major US carriers like United, Alaska, Southwest, and Hawaiian, which have also adopted Starlink, while Delta has opted for Amazon's Kuiper (Leo) network. American's Chief Customer Officer Heather Garboden stated the upgrade aims to provide a reliable, at-home level of connectivity for working, gaming, and streaming. However, the rollout is limited to Airbus aircraft, excluding Boeing planes and regional jets from this specific upgrade initially
