Starlux developing AAdvantage partnership as codeshare starts

What happened

A codeshare between Starlux and American Airlines begins September 30, and Starlux says a deal to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles will follow. The two have ticketed passengers and transferred bags together under an interline agreement since August 2025.

American will operate 26 domestic flights with Starlux codes through its Los Angeles and Phoenix hubs. Those flights serve 20 cities. Starlux already partners with Alaska Airlines and is not in oneworld. Cathay Pacific is opposing its alliance bid.

AAdvantage members could eventually book Starlux transpacific business class as a partner award, including connections beyond Taipei, at the current U.S.-Asia 2 rate of 70,000 miles each way. Redemptions are not live and no date has been announced. Partner award seats can be hard to find. It is unclear whether paid Starlux flights would earn AAdvantage Loyalty Points toward status, and unknown whether miles will book Starlux first class. Watch for an announced award date and whether U.S.-Asia 2 business still prices at 70,000 miles.
