What happened
American Airlines will let logged-in AAdvantage members mix miles into cash fares in the coming weeks, beginning on U.S. itineraries that omit Hawaii and Alaska.
After a cash-priced flight is chosen, an optional trip-insurance offer appears, followed by cash-and-miles combinations. A slider sets the mix of cash and miles and the cost summary updates before payment. Delta and United already offer a similar checkout.
American has not said what each mile will be worth on the slider. It is also unknown whether these bookings earn miles or support upgrades.
Check the slider’s implied mile value when the U.S. option appears in the coming weeks, before mixing miles into a cash fare.
