What happened
Alaska Airlines and Korean Air have filed with the Department of Transportation (DOT) requesting permission to restore a codeshare agreement. Under this partnership, Alaska will be able to place its airline code on Korean Air flights operating from its Incheon (ICN) hub to Bangkok (BKK), Busan (PUS), Delhi (DEL), Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), and Singapore (SIN). This allows passengers booking on Alaska to travel on Korean Air metal and vice versa. The move is notable because Delta Air Lines, which has a transpacific joint venture with Korean Air and owns a stake in the carrier, previously pressured Korean Air to scale back ties with Alaska. This new filing suggests a potential shift in that dynamic or an independent decision by Korean Air to expand its network reach through Alaska's Seattle hub
