What happened

Alaska Air Group announced plans to replace Hawaiian Airlines' Boeing 717 fleet with Boeing 737-800s for inter-island service, with the transition beginning in 2028. The 737-800s will feature refreshed interiors, Hawaiian livery, Starlink Wi-Fi, and increased capacity: 161 total seats compared to the 717's 123-128, including 16 first-class and 36 premium seats. This follows the 2024 Alaska-Hawaiian merger. Additionally, Alaska will base a 737-800 in Honolulu starting October 2026 for HNL-OGG routes, and all mainland-Hawaii 737s will eventually wear Hawaiian livery
