What happened
Alaska Airlines will open nonstop Anchorage to Tokyo Narita service on a Boeing 737 MAX 8 from May 13, 2027, covering 3,433 miles in about eight hours as the city's first flight to Japan. All four new Anchorage routes will use that aircraft.
The Narita flight runs daily from May 13 through Sept. 7, 2027 and is planned to resume three times weekly in January 2028. The jet is a domestic configuration with 16 first class recliners rather than a long haul business cabin. It also has 36 extra legroom seats and 115 standard economy seats. Saturday summer flights will connect Anchorage with Austin from June 12 through Aug. 7, 2027. Dallas/Fort Worth and Nashville receive the same Saturday only schedule.
Alaska already flies Seattle to Narita and has announced Seattle to Osaka Kansai from May 2027. Oneworld flyers get a transpacific option from Anchorage, but award space will sit on a narrow body with domestic first class recliners. Watch for Anchorage to Narita schedules and award inventory for May 2027, plus the Saturday domestic routes from June 12.
