Alaska Airlines to Add Premium Economy Cabins and Ultra-Premium Seattle Lounge

Alaska Airlines plans to install premium economy cabins on its Boeing 787s and Hawaiian's Airbus A330s starting in 2028, alongside a new 40,000-square-foot premium lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

What happened

Alaska Airlines is expanding its global product offerings with two major announcements. First, the airline confirmed it will install a true premium economy cabin (distinct from its current extra-legroom coach seats) on its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and Hawaiian Airlines' Airbus A330s, with retrofits beginning in 2028. This addresses a gap in their long-haul product compared to other global carriers. Second, Alaska is planning a massive 40,000-square-foot ultra-premium lounge at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) on the C Concourse. This new lounge will likely serve business-class passengers and high-tier elite members of the Atmos Rewards program, positioning itself as a cut above the standard Alaska Lounge, similar to American's Flagship or United's Polaris lounges
