What happened

WestJet and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing WestJet cabin crew, have reached a tentative agreement, ending the work stoppage and network-wide operational disruption. The agreement will now go to WestJet Cabin Crew for a ratification vote. WestJet had begun pruning flights on Friday and canceled more than 600 flights through the end of the day on August 3, 2026. The airline stated that it will take several days to clear the backlog of displaced passengers and reposition aircraft and crews to restore normal operations. Some flights may continue to be disrupted during this period. The strike had lasted approximately one day before the deal was reached. CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech apologized for the disruption and thanked passengers for their patience
