Star Alliance Rewards ends for HSBC Australia on 18 February 2027

What happened

HSBC's exit from Australian consumer banking will close the Star Alliance cobranded Rewards program on 18 February 2027, with unconverted points expiring after 23:59 AEST on 17 February 2027. Those leftover balances are forfeited without compensation and cannot be reinstated.

Earning of Star Alliance Points stops on 17 November 2026, when premium-status qualification also ends. The cobranded HSBC Star Alliance credit card closes on 18 November 2026. Balances can still be converted through 17 February 2027 into miles at EVA Air, Air New Zealand, Singapore Airlines, South African Airways or United.

A separate emailed cutoff will cover choosing a status airline. Move leftover points into one of those airline programs by 17 February 2027 or they will be forfeited.
