What happened
Four Scotia Momentum cards will stop earning accelerated cash back on rent and tax from October 22, 2026, falling to each card's regular purchase rate. The Infinite+ card drops from 4% to 1% on those charges. The No-Fee Visa drops from 1% to 0.5%.
Scotiabank is applying the cut by merchant category code, covering any processor that codes rent as 6513 or tax as 9311. Other eligible recurring bills still get the accelerated rate. The Infinite+ keeps 4% on those bills inside its $25,000 groceries and bills cap. Whether a payment still earns the old rate depends on the card charge date, not the bill due date. Chexy told customers October 21, 2026 is the last charge date that can still earn 4%.
Chexy's 1.75% fee will then exceed the Infinite+ 1% rate. A $2,000 monthly rent payment goes from a $45 net gain to a $15 net loss after the fee. Chexy users can reassign those payments to another card in the app without changing the biller.
Put remaining rent and tax charges through by October 21, 2026 to hold the old rate, then move those bills off Momentum cards.
