What happened
Malaysia's Immigration Department has voided every Malaysian International Passport that runs longer than 10 years and will replace those booklets for free, each capped at 10 years. Airlines and foreign immigration systems had been rejecting the extra-long documents as non-standard, leaving some travelers unable to board or enter.
The extra validity came from leftover time that used to roll onto a renewed passport. The department has immediately set a 10-year maximum and will not issue any further passports beyond that limit. Holders get priority processing on the free replacement. Airlines will be told so they can assist Malaysians already overseas.
A Malaysian frequent flyer whose passport still shows more than 10 years of validity can no longer use that document for international travel. Collect the free replacement before the next trip.
