What happened

Japan Airlines (JAL) has implemented a new policy banning all cabin crew members from consuming alcohol during their work trips. This is an expansion of the existing rule, which previously prohibited alcohol consumption only within 12 hours of departure. The change follows recent incidents where flight attendants consumed alcohol in hotel lounges and failed pre-flight breath-alcohol tests, leading to flight delays and cancellations. In one notable case, a flight from Hiroshima to Haneda was delayed by 40 minutes while a replacement crew member was found after a flight attendant failed her test and did not report it. Transport ministry officials also conducted an inspection at JAL regarding these issues
