IHG will convert 14 Kyoto hotels into 12 Garner properties

What happened

IHG signed a conversion deal for a 1,063-room Kyoto portfolio of 14 hotels, with 12 becoming Garner properties and openings phased over the next 12 months after renovations. GCP Hospitality will manage the hotels. One will become a Holiday Inn Express and one will stay unbranded.

IHG says the hotels sit in key Kyoto districts near major transport and tourist sites. The company already operates in Kyoto, including Garner. An IHG Japan executive said owners want access to IHG's distribution and One Rewards scale. The conversion follows Garner reaching 100 hotels worldwide.

The hotels still need renovations and rebranding and cannot be booked through IHG One Rewards. Once they open, members should have more midscale stay and award options in Kyoto.

Watch for the converted hotels to appear in IHG One Rewards as they open.
