American Airlines is phasing out premium first class on its A321T and 777-300ER fleets after missing a late 2024 target set in September 2022. The A321Ts have 10 first class seats.
One Mile at a Time reports that 777-300ER retrofits with new business seats have begun. Those cabin changes remove first class. Finishing the fleet is expected to take a couple of years. A321Ts are being recast as ordinary domestic aircraft, with first-class-free A321XLRs taking premium transcontinental routes within 12-18 months. First class remains in the published schedule into late summer 2027. There is no new official date for when sales stop. The author guesses sales will stop in the second half of 2027. Physical seats remain until aircraft are reconfigured.
Flagship First Dining becomes Flagship Dining on September 15, 2026, with a la carte meals for business class. The author calls onboard first class barely better than business class and treats the new business hard product as a net improvement. Book Flagship First while it remains in the schedule through late summer 2027, and use September 15, 2026 as the date business class gains Flagship Dining.
