Thai VietJet passenger claims 600,000 baht stolen from checked bag

What happened

LoyaltyLobby reports that a Thai VietJet passenger on flight VZ342 from Bangkok to Krabi found a checked suitcase damaged and forced open at the Krabi baggage belt and claimed Cartier jewelry and other belongings worth 600,000 baht were missing.

Suvarnabhumi Airport said the bag logged a CLEAR EDS result and was not pulled for manual inspection. Baggage-system scans and CCTV showed the bag moving normally through outbound handling and then sorting automatically to the makeup unit. Thai VietJet's loader at Bangkok is Pattaya Aviation Co., Ltd. The airline and Airports of Thailand are investigating. The airline said it contacted the passenger. Theft could also have occurred after arrival in Krabi.

Even with tracking and CCTV, checked-bag theft claims are hard to prove. Airline liability on this domestic flight is limited under national law or the Montreal Convention. Documented proof is usually required before any payout. The passenger is unlikely to recover close to the claimed value. Keep jewelry in carry-on and report a tampered bag at the belt.
