Sri Lanka has announced that nationals of 40 specific countries can now obtain a free Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for tourism, effective May 25, 2026. Previously, these travelers were required to pay a visa fee (typically around $50). The free ETA allows for a 30-day stay with double-entry facility. Notably, under bilateral reciprocal agreements, nationals of Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore are also eligible, with Maldivian nationals receiving a 90-day visa. Diplomatic, Official, Service, and Ordinary passport holders from the eligible nations qualify. While the visa is free, applicants must still apply for the ETA prior to arrival. Fees paid prior to May 25, 2026, are non-refundable. Extensions beyond 30 days require payment of applicable fees. This policy change significantly reduces entry costs for frequent fliers visiting Sri Lanka from these regions
