What happened
On August 4, 2026, Silk Way West flight 7L5722, a Boeing 747-8 cargo jet from Mexico City Felipe Angeles to Houston Intercontinental, was circling near Dallas Fort Worth at 5,000 feet more than 200 miles from Houston. The crew called pan-pan for low fuel yet still requested IAH runway 26R.
One Mile at a Time reports that controllers said the jet lacked fuel for Houston and declared an emergency. The flight was sent to DFW. The 741-mile sector ordinarily takes around 90 minutes. The pilots later stated they had 6,000 pounds of fuel left. Cruise burn on a 747-8 is around 400 pounds of fuel per minute, and those figures did not match reaching IAH with reserves. After refueling in Dallas the aircraft continued to Houston in 39 minutes.
ACARS traffic about heading to Dallas Love Field suggests the crew thought they were only being rerouted for Houston congestion. A language barrier may have added confusion. It does not explain asking for Houston with so little fuel left. The flight was cargo-only and does not change passenger routes or loyalty programs. Nothing here belongs on a booking calendar.
