Ryanair Flight FR1879 Window Shatters, Passenger Partially Sucked Out

Debris from an engine failure on Ryanair flight FR1879 shattered a cabin window shortly after takeoff from Thessaloniki, partially sucking out a passenger before the plane returned to the airport

What happened

On July 10, 2026, Ryanair flight FR1879 (operated by subsidiary Malta Air) suffered a window shattering incident shortly after takeoff from Thessaloniki, Greece (SKG) to Memmingen, Germany (FMM). Debris from an engine failure reportedly pierced the fuselage while the Boeing 737-800 was climbing through 15,000 feet. A passenger seated by the window was partially sucked out but pulled back in by companions. Oxygen masks deployed as the plane circled to burn fuel before landing back in Thessaloniki about an hour after departure. The affected passenger was hospitalized; three others were released. The aircraft remained on the ground in Thessaloniki
