What happened
Porter canceled the 10:30PM Victoria–Toronto redeye PD444 on August 6, 2026 after a toddler who stood in the seat refused to buckle during taxi and the delay reached Victoria’s 12:30AM runway curfew. One Mile at a Time reports the Embraer E195-E2 returned to the gate. The family was offloaded with bags and remaining passengers were rebooked for the next day.
The aircraft had been due into Toronto at 6:04AM. Once checks were done and the plan was refiled, it was 12:30AM. Victoria’s runway had closed, so the flight stayed on the ground. Porter said the plane could not take off with the child unsecured and apologized for the disruption.
Last flights from curfew airports cannot recover from a taxi delay that hits 12:30AM.
