Chinese Passenger Kicks Automated Exit Gate at Bangkok Airport, Receives Lifetime Ban

A Chinese national was arrested and given a lifetime ban from Thailand after kicking and damaging an automated exit immigration gate at Bangkok's Suvarnabhemi Airport for failing to accept his passport

What happened

A Chinese national, identified as Liwei Zheng, was arrested at Bangkok's Suvarnabhemi Airport after damaging an automated exit immigration gate. The incident occurred on a Wednesday around 2pm in the departure area. Zheng failed to follow instructions while attempting to use the gate, which did not accept his passport. Instead of proceeding to a manual booth, he kicked the glass barrier, causing the system to malfunction and the door to break. He attempted to use the gate again, kicked it a second time, and forced his way through without completing procedures. Airport security, aided by his wife, restrained him after he shouted abuse in Chinese and English. He faces charges for property damage (estimated at 450,000 baht) and insulting a public official. Immigration authorities have revoked his visa and placed him on a permanent blacklist, barring him from re-entering Thailand. He will be deported once legal proceedings are complete. This incident highlights the strict enforcement of the new automated exit gates installed by the Thai Immigration Department
