American Airlines has revealed plans to resume daily nonstop flights between Chicago O'Hare (ORD) and Tokyo Narita (NRT) as of March 27, 2027. This marks American's return to Asia flying out of Chicago, a route it last served until January 2020. The airline will use a Boeing 787-9 for the 6,272-mile route. The cabin configuration includes 30 business class seats, 21 premium economy seats, and 254 economy seats for a total of 305 seats. This service is part of American's strategy to compete against United in Chicago. American currently serves Tokyo Narita exclusively from Dallas (DFW) and Tokyo Haneda from Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York. The route replicates service by joint venture partner Japan Airlines, which already flies daily to Chicago from both Tokyo airports
