Starting May 19, 2026, Lufthansa Group's new Economy Basic fare includes only a personal item, excluding carry-on bags. Star Alliance Gold elites retain carry-on privileges

## Summary

Effective May 19, 2026, Lufthansa Group airlines (LH, OS, SN, LX, EN, 4Y, VL) will introduce a revised European fare structure featuring a new entry-level 'Economy Basic' fare. Key details:
- **Baggage**: Economy Basic includes only one personal item (max 40 × 30 × 15 cm). Carry-on baggage (max 8 kg) must be added for a fee.
- **Elite Exception**: Star Alliance Gold members (Senator, HON, partner tiers) retain the right to one full-size carry-on bag despite booking Basic fares.
- **Flexibility**: The fare is non-rebookable and non-refundable.
- **Availability**: Available on selected European routes for travel starting May 19, 2026, via direct distribution channels (NDC, websites). This marks a shift toward a 'low-cost carrier' model for the premium group, impacting price-conscious travelers and those relying on basic economy fares
