What happened
Lufthansa's new Boeing 787 Allegris business class seats are now officially certified by the FAA, resolving a months-long issue where most seats were blocked from sale. Effective immediately, 25 of the 28 business class seats on these aircraft are available for booking, with only the three seats in row two remaining unbookable for the time being. The certification process was delayed because the Allegris seats are produced by three different manufacturers, requiring separate certification for each seat type on each aircraft type. While the Airbus A350-900 had its seats certified earlier, the Boeing 787s faced stricter scrutiny. The first flight with the full certified configuration (25 seats) operated on March 15. For the remainder of the winter season (through late March 2026), these 787s will serve Frankfurt (FRA) to Austin (AUS), Bogota (BOG), Hyderabad (HYD), Mumbai (BOM), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), and Toronto (YYZ). Starting in late March 2026 for the summer season, the fleet will also fly to Cape Town (CPT), Hong Kong (HKG), and Shanghai (PVG). Lufthansa currently operates 10 new Dreamliners with 19 more expected by the end of 2027
