JetBlue has increased checked bag fees by $4 for off-peak and $9 for peak periods, effective immediately. First bags now cost up to $59 if paid within 24 hours of departure

## Summary

JetBlue has implemented an immediate increase in its checked bag fees, raising them by $4 during off-peak periods and $9 during peak periods. The airline attributes the hike to rising fuel costs, aiming to keep base fares competitive. The new pricing structure distinguishes between payments made more than 24 hours in advance versus those made within 24 hours. For peak periods, a first checked bag costs $49 if paid 24+ hours in advance, and $59 if paid within 24 hours of departure. This change reflects a broader industry trend of using ancillary fees to offset variable expenses like fuel without raising headline ticket prices
