Israel's Ministry of Transportation has proposed that Emirates launch seventh freedom flights from Tel Aviv to New York (JFK) and Bangkok (BKK), allowing transport between those cities without connecting in Dubai

## Summary

Israel’s Ministry of Transportation met with senior Emirates officials to propose that the carrier launch seventh freedom flights from Tel Aviv (TLV) to New York (JFK) and Bangkok (BKK). Unlike fifth freedom flights, seventh freedom allows an airline to carry passengers between two foreign countries without returning to its home base (Dubai). This would be unprecedented for Israel, which has historically been protectionist toward its local carriers. The proposal is part of a larger negotiation to encourage Emirates to resume service to Israel, which has been suspended since October 7, 2023. Key hurdles include changing Israeli aviation laws and potential opposition from competing local airlines. While Emirates has existing fifth freedom routes to the US, this specific seventh freedom opportunity faces significant regulatory and political challenges
