British Airways discovered a technical issue caused up to 130,000 Club members to retain status they didn't earn. The airline is contacting affected members to apologize and reinstate correct tiers

## Summary

British Airways (BA) issued a statement to the Financial Times regarding a status extension error in its loyalty program. While BA initially claimed the renewal of a "very small number" of Club members followed normal guidelines, a subsequent "forensic" investigation revealed a technical issue. This error resulted in up to 130,000 members (approximately 1% of the base) retaining status without meeting the official criteria. BA will contact affected customers in the coming days to apologize and reinstate their correct tier status
